Dr. Edward Bach, a well-known bacteriologist, physician, and pathologist, created a line of flower remedies developed in the 1900s because of his own illness and the experiences in treating his patients.

Homeopathy is the belief that the body can heal itself. Dr. Bach believed that illness was the result of a conflict between the purposes of the soul and the personality's actions and outlook. This internal war leads to negative moods and to "energy blocking", thought to cause a lack of "harmony", thus leading to physical diseases.

He believed that illnesses caused by negative emotions, like stress and depression, could be alleviated with flower essences, which are herbal infusions that are said to carry the vibrational energy and healing power of the infused flower. Dr. Bach believed that healing negative emotions helps the body heal itself. A healthy emotional life and a balanced personality will allow your body to find its own natural state of health.

Bach® flower remedies are an alternative or complementary treatment that is used for emotional problems and pain. They’re made out of watered-down extracts from the flowers of wild plants.

His system contains 38 remedies that each address a specific negative emotion. The emotions are grouped into 7 broad psychological causes of illness:

  • Fear

  • Uncertainty

  • Lack of interest in present circumstances

  • Loneliness

  • Oversensitivity to influences and ideas

  • Sadness or Despair

  • Cares for others at the expense of self

Flower Remedies vs. Essential Oils

Flower Remedies and Essential Oils are often confused with each other. Both solutions are made with plants, but they’re prepared in very different ways.

Here’s how flower remedies are made:

  1. Flowers are submerged in natural spring water.

  2. The water is boiled or placed in the sun. Allegedly, sun exposure helps extract the energy of flowers.

  3. The water is filtered and preserved with brandy. The finished remedies contain no part of the flower.

Remedies can be made with nonflowering plants and crystals using the same method. They can also be made without alcohol.

On the other hand, essential oils are concentrated liquids of plant compounds. Here’s how they’re made:

  1. The flowers, leaves, fruit, or bark of a plant are gathered. One bottle of essential oil often requires several pounds of plant material.

  2. The plant material is steamed distilled or pressed, which extracts the fragrant compounds.

  3. The extracted “oil” is not actually oily and may be mixed with a carrier oil for use.

Potential Benefits of Flower Remedies

Here are some research says about their potential benefits:

Flower remedies for anxiety

Flower essences may have benefits for anxiety. In a 2020 study, flower therapy reduced anxiety in children at the dentist. An older 2012 study found similar effects in adults with moderate anxiety.

Additionally, a 2017 case report found that a Bach flower remedy reduced anxiety in a woman with menopause.

According to a 2008 review, flower remedies provide energy that balances emotions.

Flower remedies for pain

In a 2017 study, Bach flower remedies reportedly eased pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. The participants applied a flower essence cream to the affected area.

An older 2008 study also found that Bach flower remedies relieved pain. According to the researchers, the therapy helped participants focus on their emotional health rather than physical pain. They also acknowledged that believing in flower therapy was a factor.

Theoretically, if flower remedies can reduce anxiety, they may have benefits for pain. That’s because anxiety increases your perception of pain, according to a 2019 report.

Flower remedies are a form of herbal medicine. They’re believed to contain the vibrational energy of flowers, which can improve negative thoughts and emotions. It can be used in children, adults, and animals to balance emotions and relieve stress and anxiety.

Although Flower Remedies are generally considered safe (including for those on a gluten-free diet), people taking certain medications such as antibiotics like metronidazole or alcohol use disorder drug Antabuse (disulfiram) may experience nausea and/or vomiting because of the alcohol-based form of any flower essence. The Bach Flower Remedies also comes in zero-proof versions preserved with vegetable glycerin instead of brandy, ideal for those who are pregnant or nursing, or for children.

You became the light”

We met years ago because we both enjoyed making tasty food.  What I didn’t know is that years later you became the light not only leading the way in the dark but also warming my heart.  You have a special ability that often enlightens me and goes right to the heart of the matter. Is it because you have gone through the dark tunnel yourself? I am truly appreciating you sharing your own life journey with me. While I am helping with a family member who is sick, you have guided me on how to recognize my own emotions and set boundaries that also give me the courage to go on.

I am fortunate that my self-healing journey has Sabrina’s company”

I was very resistant to the idea of self-healing because I refuse to admit that I was the problem and the fact that I was sick and wounded. Not until one day I realized that I was in big trouble, and I couldn’t handle it anymore, I call Sabrina.  I didn’t really want to or wasn’t ready for the wounded self, to really look at the root cause and heal.  Sabrina was patient and gentle, guiding me to see it wasn’t all my faults; however, I need to begin to heal the wounds and all the changes will begin within.

No one ever told me that I was sick, mentally, and emotionally, and the inner child has been sending SOS signals, but I never pay attention or care.  Even during our healing sessions, I am often time going around in circles emotionally.  I was in so much pain to a point that I felt suffocated, so I called Sabrina to say goodbye.  I was crying so hard on the phone, and she somehow pull me out of the hole. I don’t remember what happened. All I remembered is that the thoughts of killing myself were gone when I hung up the phone.

Self-healing is not easy, and I am fortunate that my journey has Sabrina’s company. She custom blend a bottle of the flower remedies for me to use daily while I am working on myself, healing from inside out. I do feel better, and I am certain that Sabrina helps me to see that I need to begin to love myself and I am willing to learn how to do so.

If you are unhappy or stuck in a negative emotional circle, consider talking with Sabrina because you may realize that everything could get better, and your wounded self can be loved and healed.
